Newspaper Unit ("Corporate Services")
In 2000, Gruner + Jahr and Pearson launched one of the most ambitious newspaper
projects that Germany has seen since the end of World War II. The FINANCIAL TIMES DEUTSCHLAND,
or FTD, is only the second nationwide daily to be founded after 1945. Publishing courage and a
strong financial basis were essential requirements for this successful step. More than four years
after its launch, some 311.000 readers (MA 2007) and 101.847 buyers (IVW I/2009) read the FTD
daily to stay abreast of worldwide economic developments - and the trend is bearish.
The newspaper unit also includes a 60% stake in the SÄCHSISCHE ZEITUNG, one of Germany´s most successful
and long-established local newspapers, as well as the local popular papers DRESDNER MORGENPOST,
CHEMNITZER MORGENPOST and MORGENPOST AM SONNTAG.
