The GEO and GEO HISTOIRE Web sites let readers explore the world in the virtual dimension. Lavish, interactive online feature articles and up-to-date Weblogs introduce users to people and their stories, and present in-depth information about exciting conservation projects. www.geo.fr fully matches the legendary quality of the print magazine´s articles and pictures.
GEO readers visit the vibrant photo and travel communities at www.geo.fr to share their experiences and inspire each other to new journeys around the globe. The site is rounded off with an extensive service section for travelers.
"Webreportage," developed by editor-in-chief Jean-Luc Marty and his team, is a new and innovative Web site. Its free editorial offerings, accessed through www.geo.fr, were specifically designed to take advantage of the multimedia possibilities opened up by the Internet. "Here at GEO, which has been going strong since 1979, we have a tradition of great feature articles, which our team set out to transfer to the Internet by creating a transjournalistic concept," explained Marty.
GEO France´s "Webreportage" offers users large clusters of feature articles, mostly on international topics. The editors kicked off the series with a dossier on kidnapping in Mexico, followed by the topic "Johannesburg." Each week, the site presents a new four-minute video clip which takes a closer look at an aspect of the current focus topic, in a fast-paced style that is more reminiscent of a commercial than a TV documentary. Another section containing interviews, photos and videos gives users additional background information which was compiled by the journalists in their research and is not usually available to readers.
