G+J Innovation Campaign Strikes Again: TV GRANDES CHAÎNES Becomes Second Biweekly TV Guide In France

Gruner + Jahr continues its innovation campaign in France. In the wake of the exceedingly successful launch of the innovative TV guide TÉLÉ 2 SEMAINES, TV GRANDES CHAÎNES will hit French newsstands on April 5 as part of a nationwide test. Prisma Presse has managed to come up with a completely new type of magazine. Again unlike other TV guides previously available in France, TV GRANDES CHAÎNES focuses exclusively on the programming of France´s six "terrestrial" (receivable via antenna) TV channels. 70 percent of French households receive only these six channels. The six terrestrial TV channels command a roughly 90-percent share of total TV time among French audiences.
Axel Ganz, Prisma Presse CEO and a member of the Gruner + Jahr executive board, declared on Thursday in Hamburg: "By launching TV GRANDES CHAÎNES, Prisma Presse enhances its presence in the TV guide segment yet again. And by concentrating TV GRANDES CHAÎNES on just six channels, we achieve unprecedented target group focus. Even if we are merely market-testing the new title at this point, we are fully confident about turning TV GRANDES CHAÎNES into yet another triumph of innovation. The potential is enormous. And our advertising customers are already showing great interest." Ganz emphasized that the new TV magazine complements and rounds out Prisma Presse´s TV magazine portfolio, which already includes TÉLÉ 2 SEMAINES and TÉLÉ LOISIRS.
TV GRANDES CHAÎNES will have a publishing rhythm "syncopated" to that of TÉLÉ 2 SEMAINES – always following it by one week. The initial print run for the test is 1.5 million copies, at an introductory cover price of 50 eurocents – the price is expected to eventually rise to 80 eurocents.
TV GRANDES CHAÎNES is the second innovative TV guide title to emerge from Prisma Presse´s think tank in just five months. TÉLÉ 2 SEMAINES made its debut in November 2003 and became one of the most successful magazine launches of the past few decades. Its sold circulation has since hit 2 million copies. The database that Prisma Presse had developed especially for TÉLÉ 2 SEMAINES, making possible its biweekly publication rhythm, now benefits TV GRANDES CHAÎNES as well.
