Cindy Still Appointed Executive Vice President, Consumer Marketing
New York, February 17, 2004 Axel Ganz, President of Gruner +
Jahr´s International Magazine Division and interim Chief
Executive Officer of Gruner + Jahr USA, announced the
appointment of Cindy Still to Executive Vice President,
Consumer Marketing. In this role, Still, who joins Gruner +
Jahr USA from Time 4 Media, a division of Time Inc., will
oversee circulation and consumer marketing functions for all
Gruner + Jahr USA titles.
"Cindy has contributed to the success of several well-known
publications and won numerous awards for management
excellence," says Ganz. "She is a visible and respected
consumer magazine executive, whose focus at Gruner + Jahr
USA will be leveraging our presence at retail, and enhancing
our traditional subscription marketing activities. I am
delighted she is joining us."

Still holds key industry leadership roles. Currently, she is
a member of the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) Magazine
Director´s Advisory Committee. She is a frequent industry
speaker and judge, and is a former instructor at New York
University´s Summer Publishing Institute. She has served as
Chair and Vice Chair of the Direct Marketing Association
(DMA) Circulation Council Operations Committee and has been
a member of the Magazine Publishers Association (MPA)
Consumer Marketing Committee and in the Fulfillment
Management Association (FMA).
For the past six years, Still has been Vice President,
Consumer Marketing at Time Inc.´s Time 4 Media division,
directing all consumer marketing of Golf Magazine and
Popular Science. Last month, Capell´s Circulation Report
named Popular Science one of the Top Ten Circulation
Performers of 2003, calling it "one of the great turnaround
stories of the last decade." Ms. Still was nominated for the
Time Inc. President´s Award, the company´s highest honor, in
2001 and her team received a Time Inc. Consumer Marketing
Award in 2002.
Previously, Still was Associate Publisher of The Atlantic
Monthly, where she was part of the management team that
brought the magazine to profitability for the first time in
its 130 years. Capell´s Circulation Report named The
Atlantic Monthly one of the Top Ten Circulation Performers
of 1993. In addition to directing all consumer marketing,
she directed the development of the Museum Guide, a
profitable joint venture with Brant Communications, as well
as Private Profit Public Gain, the first magazine supplement
devoted to corporate philanthropy. While there, she was
awarded the Circulation Management Magazine Circulation
Excellence Award for "outstanding achievement and innovation
in magazine circulation."
Still began her career as an editorial intern at 13-30
Corporation (later Whittle Communications), while a student
at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She soon became
involved in other aspects of the business including
advertising, marketing and circulation.
Joining Esquire magazine in New York, she took on a
succession of responsibilities in advertising and consumer
marketing. As Marketing Director, she oversaw Esquire´s 50th
Anniversary celebration, centering on the record-breaking
issue "50 Who Made the Difference."
In 1995 she was elected to the board of directors of the
ABC, the first woman to represent consumer magazines in that
capacity. In six years on the board she served on a number
of committees and subcommittees and was Vice Chair of the
Board´s Magazine Committee.
Still holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The University
of Tennessee, Knoxville and a Master of Arts from New York
University.
