Gruner + Jahr´s growth was faster than that of any other German major publisher for the second consecutive year, forcefully underscoring its position as Europe´s biggest magazine publisher and Germany´s highestsales publishing house. Gruner + Jahr Acquires Majority Of Entertainment Media Verlag anfang

Gruner + Jahr is acquiring the majority of shares in the Entertainment Media Verlag GmbH & Co KG, Munich (EMV), retroactively to Jan 1, 2007. The selling parties are the imprint´s founder and managing partner Ulrich Scheele (15.05 percent) and his longtime partner, the Ebner Ulm publishing group (82.85 percent). This gives G+J a roughly 98-percent majority in EMV. Approximately two percent of the shares will continue to be owned by Ulrich Scheele, who will continue to run the imprint as its Managing Director. Gruner + Jahr is investing in the future of its American print subsidiary Brown Printing (BPC): As part of an investment project, it plans to install two state-of-the-art offset rotary presses at its production plant in Waseca, Minnesota. The print finishing capacities, too, will be expanded by two modern adhesive binder lines, a flowline trimmer and an automatically equipped high-rack warehouse with automated guided vehicles.  ...more

Gruner + Jahr is furthering its expansion in 2005 and will start publishing the internationally successful women´s magazine GLAMOUR in Holland under license from Condé Nast this fall. In the wake of the highly successful Polish edition of GLAMOUR, this is the second international collaboration between the two publishers. In Poland, GLAMOUR was voted "Magazine Launch of the Year 2003" and currently sells 203,717 copies per issue.  ...more

The Elbe generally fulfills EU guidelines for bathing water in terms of pollution. However, it is in the nature of things that the Elbe, as a flowing river, is subject to strong currents and it isfor this reason that only some rivers in Germany can be identified as EU bathing water. Local features, extreme rainfall or water temperature can cause the limits to be exceeded at any time along the river, which is more than 1,000 km long.  ...more

The e-paper SÄCHSISCHE ZEITUNG product already fulfills the basic requirements for a future inclusion of electronic newspaper and magazine editions in IVW circulation measurements. This is why the the e-paper solution from Gruner + Jahr`s Dresden printing and publishing company is at the head of the pack compared to other competing models. In a letter to the publishers, the IVW announced that electronic issues of press products will be recorded in its figures in the future. With the 1-to-1 transfer of the print edition, payable delivery and offline availability, the current e-paper edition of the SÄCHSISCHE ZEITUNG has been meeting the most important IVW criteria since January 2002. Once detailed guidelines are developed by the IVW, digital circulation and printed circulation will be recorded separately.  ...more
