Lichtblick Foundation - people helping people in need
Every year around Christmas, the SÄCHSISCHE ZEITUNG asks for donations for the Lichtblick - people helping people in need" campaign. "Lichtblick" means "ray of hope" and for more than nine years the campaign has used these means to provide help where it´s needed most, quickly and unhindered by red tape, and where welfare and other support systems have failed. More than 800 individual cases receive urgently needed help from "Lichtblick" every year. Each case is carefully examined before donations are given out. The campaign became a foundation last year and cooperates with around 330 charitable institutions in the Dresden area, including Diakonie, the Opferhilfe (victim aid) and many others, as well as the German Red Cross and Caritas. Institutions like children´s homes, youth centers, homes for the disabled, and other non-profit organizations also benefit from donations.
Here are some examples where the foundation helped out.
Donations from Lichtblick meant:

- new beds for triplets in a family of eight people
- talking bathroom scales for a man who went blind because of a cerebral tumor
- a steamboat trip for 20 students with mental and multiple disabilities
The SÄCHSISCHE ZEITUNG accompanies all campaign aides in the weeks before Christmas and reports frequently on the fortunes of the people in need, and the current donations total. All donators are mentioned in the newspaper if they want, but anonymous donations are also welcome.
Lichtblick - every Euro helps.
