The German School Award anfang
A competition by Robert Bosch Foundation and Heidehof Foundation in cooperation with weekly magazine STERN and the public broadcasting network ZDF.
Following the motto "It can be done differently!" (There's a different way??), the Robert Bosch Foundation and Heidehof Foundation, in cooperation with STERN magazine and the public broadcasting network ZDF, launched the German School Award in 2006. With this award, the initiators want to honor outstanding pedagogic work and turn it into a useful contribution to the overall development of schools in Germany. All public and private general education schools are eligible to enter the competition.
There are excellent schools in Germany that set trends with their pedagogic achievements. Such schools manage to promote the performance and creativity of children and teenagers from the most diverse backgrounds, to inspire their pleasure in learning, give them courage to face life, and immerse them in a culture of fairness and responsibility. In view of the striking changes within society, culture and the everyday circumstances of life, they manage to define and achieve new goals over and over again, together with teachers, pupils, and parents. The objective of the German School Award is to showcase these schools, and use their innovation towards the overall school development in Germany.
The six quality benchmarks of the German School Award include academic achievement, approach to diversity, quality of instruction, responsibility, school culture, and school as a learning institution. Schools apply in writing by submitting the required application documents. A jury of experts selects schools which then present their concepts during a two-day visit by the jury. Ten schools are then nominated for the prize. The top prize in the German School Award is worth 50,000 Euro.

Eltern Family and sqoops award the prize for children's and family software anfang
Since 2007, G+J's ELTERN FAMILY magazine for parents with children from three years of age, and sqoops, the internet portal for games and educational software (www.sqoops-family.de), have come together to award the GIGA-Maus software prize. Since 1998, the best websites for children and families, as well as particularly high-quality learning and games software have been given the renowned GIGA-Maus seal of quality. Every year in October, the GIGA-Maus jury, which includes educators, journalists, representatives of the software industry and pupils, awards the prizes for all categories at the Frankfurt book fair. Says Marie-Luise Lewicki, editor in chief of ELTERN FAMILY: "The GIGA-Maus is a reliable orientation guide within the broad range of software for children and families. With these prize-winning programs, parents can leave the computer to their children without hesitation. Therefore, the high educational demands of sqoops suit ELTERN FAMILY and the GIGA-Maus perfectly." CEO Wolfgang von Krogh of sqoops notes: "As an independent vendor of high-class games and learning software, we aim at providing competent purchasing advice for parents. With our own game ratings and the monthly online magazine for parents, sqoops is not just a provider, but also a guidepost in a confusing market. We are very pleased that – thanks to the Giga-Maus award - we can now strive for this goal in cooperation with ELTERN FAMILY."
